3 killed, 2 critically hurt in Pickering two-car crash, say OPP

Pickering – Three people have died and two others are critically injured after a serious two-vehicle crash in Pickering, according to the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP). The tragic collision occurred around 7 p.m. on Tuesday near the intersection of Highway 7 and Concession Road 6.

Police say the crash involved two SUVs traveling in opposite directions. An eastbound SUV collided head-on with a westbound SUV, resulting in significant fatalities and injuries.

The driver of the eastbound SUV, identified as an 82-year-old resident of Port Perry, was pronounced dead at the scene. In the westbound SUV, two passengers—a 63-year-old from Markham and a 68-year-old from Scarborough—also died on site due to the severity of the crash.

Authorities confirmed that the driver of the westbound vehicle, a 64-year-old Markham resident, and another passenger, a 70-year-old from Richmond Hill, suffered life-threatening injuries. Both were rushed to a hospital by emergency services for urgent treatment.

The OPP stated that the Traffic Incident Management and Enforcement Team, along with Technical Collision Investigators and a Reconstructionist, were dispatched to the scene to carry out a thorough investigation. Emergency response teams from Pickering Fire Services and Durham Paramedic Services also responded to the crash.

Investigators are still working to determine the cause of the collision and are asking for the public’s assistance. Police have requested that anyone who may have witnessed the crash or has relevant dash cam footage to contact the Toronto Highway Safety Division OPP at 1-888-310-1122.

This tragic incident has deeply affected the local community, prompting renewed calls for caution on rural highways and increased awareness of safe driving practices. The investigation remains ongoing.
