Juan Manuel Duran Obituary, Death – A tragic rollover crash in Amarillo claimed the life of a 77-year-old man on Tuesday evening. According to the Amarillo Police Department, the fatal accident occurred on July 22 at approximately 8:51 p.m. near West Amarillo Boulevard.
Emergency responders were dispatched to the scene after reports of a major single-vehicle crash. When officers arrived, they found a red Ford van that had flipped over and landed on its side in the center median of the roadway. Nearby, they discovered the driver—who was the only person in the vehicle—lying on the grass just east of the wreckage.
Authorities identified the deceased as Juan Manuel Duran of Amarillo. He was pronounced dead at the scene due to injuries sustained during the crash. Police stated that Duran had not been wearing a seatbelt at the time of the accident, which may have contributed to the severity of his injuries when he was ejected from the van.
Based on the preliminary investigation, police believe the van had been traveling westbound on Amarillo Boulevard when it veered off the road to the north. In an attempt to correct the vehicle’s path, Duran appears to have oversteered, which caused the van to lose control and roll over into the median. The force of the rollover caused Duran to be thrown from the vehicle.
Officials from the Potter County Justice of the Peace, including Judge Thomas Jones, were contacted following the accident. An autopsy has been ordered to further examine the cause of death and determine whether any other factors, such as a medical condition, may have played a role in the crash.
The Amarillo Police Department’s Traffic Investigation Squad is currently handling the investigation. They are working to gather more details about what led to the fatal crash, including looking at possible mechanical failures or environmental conditions at the time.
Duran’s family has been notified, and authorities extended their condolences during this difficult time. No other vehicles were involved in the incident, and there were no additional injuries reported.
This crash adds to the growing concern about vehicle safety and the importance of seatbelt use. Police continue to urge all drivers and passengers to wear their seatbelts at all times, as doing so significantly reduces the risk of fatal injuries in crashes.
As the investigation continues, police have not released any further details. Anyone who may have witnessed the crash or has additional information is encouraged to contact the Amarillo Police Department.
This remains an ongoing case, and updates may follow as authorities complete their examination of the incident.
