Da’Marion Lagrange Obituary, Death – A tragic accident in Breaux Bridge has resulted in the death of a 16-year-old boy. Louisiana State Police reported that the victim, identified as Da’Marion Lagrange of Breaux Bridge, lost his life in a collision involving an electric scooter early Wednesday morning.
The crash occurred shortly after midnight on Louisiana Highway 347, just south of Jolie Blonde Road in St. Martin Parish. According to investigators, Lagrange had been riding an electric scooter northbound in the southbound lane of the highway. The scooter did not have any lights, and Lagrange was not wearing a helmet at the time of the incident.
At the same time, a 2015 Chrysler 300 was traveling north on LA 347 and was in the process of overtaking a slower-moving vehicle within a designated passing zone. As the Chrysler moved into the southbound lane to pass, it struck Lagrange from behind.
Emergency responders quickly arrived on the scene, and Lagrange was rushed to a nearby hospital with serious injuries. Despite medical efforts, he later died from the injuries he sustained in the crash.
The driver of the Chrysler, who was properly restrained at the time of the collision, was not injured. Authorities have stated that the driver showed no signs of impairment and voluntarily submitted to a breath test, which confirmed there was no alcohol in their system.
A routine toxicology sample was collected from Lagrange and sent to a lab for further analysis. Results are pending as the investigation continues.
The Louisiana State Police emphasized that the circumstances of the crash are still being examined. Investigators are working to determine all contributing factors, including visibility, road conditions, and the positioning of the scooter on the roadway.
This heartbreaking incident highlights growing concerns about safety when it comes to non-traditional vehicles like electric scooters, particularly when used on roadways at night. State police continue to urge all riders to follow safety precautions, including using lights and wearing helmets, especially when operating on or near highways.
The loss of Da’Marion Lagrange has left his family, friends, and the Breaux Bridge community in mourning. His death serves as a painful reminder of how vulnerable riders can be in traffic, especially in situations involving limited visibility and high-speed vehicles.
Authorities have not filed any charges in connection to the crash as of now, and the investigation remains active. Police are asking anyone with additional information about the incident to come forward to assist in their efforts to piece together what happened during those early morning hours.
As the community processes this tragic event, law enforcement officials are also encouraging increased awareness and safety measures for those using personal transport devices like electric scooters on public roads.
