Hector Bococ, Maria Maquin Obituary, Death – Two adults lost their lives in a tragic crash Saturday night on the northbound side of Interstate 35 near the 311 exit ramp in Troy, Texas. The fatal collision occurred around 8:15 p.m. and involved a Dodge Ram pickup truck and a Kia Optima.
According to the Troy Police Department, the Dodge Ram had pulled over onto the shoulder of the highway because of a flat tire. Two adults were outside the vehicle attempting to fix the issue, while a teenager who was with them waited in the nearby grass median.
Investigators say that a Kia Optima suddenly veered off the main lanes of traffic and crashed into the back of the parked Dodge Ram. The impact of the crash was severe and resulted in the deaths of the two adults working on the vehicle. Authorities identified the victims as 35-year-old Hector Bococ and 34-year-old Maria Maquin, both residents of Cedar Park, Texas.
Emergency responders arrived quickly at the scene. Bell County Precinct 3 Justice of the Peace Fisher pronounced both Bococ and Maquin dead at the location. Fortunately, the teenager who had been standing in the median was not seriously injured. The teen was transported to a nearby hospital for evaluation and treatment of minor injuries and has since been reunited with family members.
At this time, it remains unclear why the driver of the Kia left the roadway and struck the stopped pickup. The incident is still under investigation by the Troy Police Department, with assistance from the Texas Department of Public Safety and other agencies.
The crash scene required a coordinated response from multiple departments and organizations. In addition to Troy Police and DPS, personnel from the Temple Police Department, Troy Volunteer Fire Department, Temple EMS, and towing services including 121 Towing and Ward’s Wrecker also assisted.
This tragic event serves as a sobering reminder of the dangers faced by motorists who must stop on the shoulder of busy highways, especially during nighttime hours. Authorities urge drivers to use extreme caution and to slow down or move over when they see vehicles or individuals on the side of the road.
As the investigation continues, officials are working to determine the exact cause of the crash and whether any charges will be filed. The names of those involved in the Kia Optima have not yet been released.
