Emergency services were called to the 3000 block of County Road 41 early in the morning, around 6:20 a.m., for a water rescue. According to officials, a vehicle carrying two individuals had been swept off the road by rising floodwaters. Responders were able to rescue one of the occupants, who fortunately did not suffer any major injuries.

However, the second occupant, later identified as Turner, was missing when first responders arrived. After a short search, he was located, but tragically, he had already passed away. Cleburne County Coroner Adam Downs responded to the scene and officially pronounced Turner dead.

The incident is part of the wider impact of heavy flooding in the area, which overwhelmed roads and left emergency crews racing to respond to multiple calls. Local officials have not released further details about the vehicle’s destination or the circumstances that led to it becoming stranded, but they continue to remind the public of the dangers of driving through flooded areas.

Authorities have not yet indicated whether further investigation is ongoing but emphasized the importance of caution during severe weather. The name of the survivor has not been released.

Cohen Turner’s death marks a somber reminder of the deadly risks posed by flash flooding.
