Majda Massri, Abderrahman “Abdul” Rajab Obituary, Death – On Friday afternoon, Cary police responded to a shooting at the Windsor at Tryon Village Apartments in the 8100 block of Underwood Arbor Place, where they found two people dead in what has been confirmed as a domestic violence case.
The incident occurred around 3:45 p.m. When officers arrived, they discovered the bodies of 55-year-old Majda Massri and her estranged husband, 60-year-old Abderrahman “Abdul” Rajab, inside the apartment. Both victims had suffered gunshot wounds. Authorities said there is no ongoing threat to the public, indicating that the shooting was an isolated incident.
A firearm was recovered at the scene. Police have sent both bodies to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner for autopsies to officially determine the cause of death.
Witness accounts helped piece together some of the moments before the shooting. A neighbor who lives in the apartment complex told ABC11 that he heard what sounded like an argument in a language he could not understand, followed by two distinct gunshots. He recalled waking up to the noise, noting that the first shot sounded muffled, almost like something heavy had been slammed to the floor, followed by an exchange of words—mostly a man’s voice—and then, after about 20 seconds, a second shot. After that, there was complete silence.
A friend of the couple shared with reporters that Massri and Rajab were originally from Syria and had been married for over 20 years. They had three adult children: two daughters and a son. The friend explained that Massri had recently chosen to separate from Rajab, and that he had been experiencing periods of depression in recent times. Both were said to be in their mid-to-late fifties.
Family members arrived at the scene later but were too grief-stricken to speak publicly about the tragedy. Police said they are awaiting the arrival of other relatives from out of town before releasing further details.
Throughout Friday night and into Saturday morning, investigators remained on site, with the Wake County Bureau of Forensic Services processing the apartment for evidence. Officers confirmed that the investigation is ongoing and cautioned that no additional information would be available until at least Saturday.
While police have not provided a detailed timeline of the events leading to the shooting, the combination of witness testimony, the recovery of a weapon, and the confirmation of the victims’ relationship points strongly to this being a murder-suicide linked to domestic violence. Authorities have not said who they believe pulled the trigger.
The incident adds to ongoing concerns about domestic violence cases, particularly those involving couples in long-term relationships facing separation. For neighbors and friends, the tragedy has left a deep emotional impact, as many described the couple as quiet and private.
For now, Cary police are focusing on completing the investigation, supporting the victims’ family, and ensuring that all necessary forensic work is done to confirm the sequence of events that ended in this fatal domestic shooting.
