The incident began around 11:30 a.m. on August 10, when officers were investigating a report of a stolen vehicle in the area of 301 West Road. During their search, they found the vehicle parked in a lot near a Publix supermarket at the intersection of West Road and Ocoee Apopka Road.
According to police, as officers moved in to make contact with the driver, Guerrero suddenly put the vehicle in gear and accelerated toward them. The report states that both officers were struck by the vehicle during the encounter. In response, one of the officers discharged his weapon, striking Guerrero.
Emergency personnel transported Guerrero to a nearby hospital, where she was listed in critical condition. Despite medical efforts, she later succumbed to her injuries. Officials confirmed that neither of the officers sustained serious injuries in the incident.
Following standard protocol, the Ocoee Police Department placed both involved officers on paid administrative leave while the Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) takes over the investigation.
