Northeast Kansas – Authorities in Kansas City are investigating an early morning apartment fire that left one person dead on Friday. The Kansas City Fire Department confirmed the fatality after crews responded to a blaze in a two-story residential building in the city’s northeast area.
Firefighters were dispatched shortly before 1 a.m. to the apartment complex located along Independence Avenue near Kensington Avenue. When emergency crews arrived, they encountered visible flames coming from the back portion of the building’s second floor.
