Robert DeCesare Obituary, Death – A shocking act of violence at a Nashua country club left one man dead and several others injured Saturday night, according to New Hampshire authorities. The state Attorney General’s Office reported that 23-year-old Hunter Nadeau has been charged with second-degree murder in connection with the shooting at the Sky Meadow Country Club. Investigators said Nadeau allegedly shot and killed 59-year-old Robert DeCesare during the attack, which also left two others wounded by gunfire and several more people injured as they tried to escape the chaos.
According to officials, DeCesare was dining with his wife and daughter at the time. His mother, Evie O’Rourke, told WCVB that her son acted heroically in his final moments. She explained that he shielded his family when Nadeau entered and opened fire. “He kicked the door open, and Rob just went right for him and protected his family,” O’Rourke said. She described her son as “a great guy” who will be deeply missed.
The shooting triggered a massive law enforcement response, with police from more than a dozen New Hampshire and Massachusetts communities rushing to the scene after 7:30 p.m. Dispatch audio revealed that initial reports said someone had been shot in the face. Witnesses described the scene as chaotic, with more than 100 people inside the country club when shots rang out.
Authorities said Nadeau allegedly entered the club armed with a handgun and began firing. Two other people were struck by bullets, though their current conditions have not been disclosed. Additional injuries occurred as guests scrambled to flee, some reportedly taking themselves to a nearby fire station for help.
Witnesses provided chilling accounts of the incident. Tom Bartelson, who was present, recalled that the suspect seemed to deliberately target DeCesare. He also said Nadeau shouted unsettling statements during the attack, including “The children are safe” and “Free Palestine.” Authorities have not confirmed whether these statements point to a motive.
Investigators later confirmed that there was only one shooter, despite initial fears of a second suspect. Nadeau was detained at the scene without further violence. Police also seized a vehicle, believed to be a Toyota RAV4, which may be connected to the case.
At this time, investigators say there is no known personal connection between Nadeau and DeCesare. Officials emphasized that it appeared the victim was specifically targeted, though the reasoning remains unclear. The Attorney General’s Office said Nadeau could face additional charges as the investigation progresses.
For DeCesare’s family, the tragedy is especially heartbreaking. His daughter is scheduled to be married in just six weeks, and loved ones say his absence will leave a painful void. “His thought was to take care of his family,” O’Rourke said, highlighting his bravery during the attack.
Authorities continue to investigate the case and have not released a possible motive. Nadeau is being held and is scheduled to be arraigned on Monday.
