Authorities in Minnesota have confirmed that a tragic crash on Friday morning claimed the lives of a woman from Echo and her teenage passenger. The Minnesota State Patrol reported that the incident took place shortly after 8 a.m. along Minnesota Highway 274 near Wood Lake Township, during a period of challenging winter road conditions.
Based on the preliminary findings, a 2001 Chevrolet Monte Carlo was traveling northbound at the same time a 2024 GMC Acadia was heading southbound on the same stretch of roadway. As the two vehicles approached each other, the wintry weather became a significant factor. Officials said that the northbound vehicle, driven by Jean Elizabeth Hodgman of Echo, lost control on the snow-covered pavement. This loss of control caused the vehicle to veer into the path of the southbound Acadia, resulting in a head-on collision.
Hodgman, along with her passenger, 14-year-old Jonathan David Ramos, also of Echo, both suffered fatal injuries. Responding officials stated that they were unable to survive the impact of the crash despite emergency efforts. The State Patrol noted that neither occupant of the Monte Carlo had been wearing a seatbelt, which may have contributed to the severity of their injuries.
