OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. — Police have identified the woman who died late Sunday night after she was struck by a vehicle while sledding on a roadway in northwest Oklahoma City, authorities say.
The Oklahoma City Police Department responded around 11:10 p.m. on Sunday, January 25, to a report of a pedestrian collision near Northwest 81st Street and Walker Avenue. Officers learned that a vehicle had been pulling a sled along the street with a rope, and the woman — later identified as 31‑year‑old Makayla Mitchell — was on the sled when the rope broke.
After the sled stopped in the roadway, a second vehicle struck the woman. Emergency responders pronounced her dead at the scene.
Police say both drivers involved were evaluated by a drug recognition officer and showed signs of impairment. Blood samples were taken at the scene, and both people were booked into the Oklahoma County Detention Center on charges that include second‑degree murder and aggravated DUI, according to the Oklahoma City Police Department.
At this time, authorities have not released further details about the ongoing investigation. No additional public safety concerns have been reported.
