Authorities have released the names of two men who died following a shooting at South Carolina State University on Thursday night.
According to the Orangeburg County Coroner’s Office, 19-year-old Henry L. Crittington of Orangeburg was pronounced deceased at the scene. Eighteen-year-old Terrell Thomas of Norway, South Carolina, was transported to MUSC Health Orangeburg, where he later died.
Officials said both men died from apparent gunshot wounds. Autopsies are scheduled to be conducted next week as part of the ongoing investigation.
The shooting was reported inside an apartment at the Hugine Suites student housing complex. In response, the university issued a campus lockdown around 9:15 p.m. Thursday to ensure the safety of students and staff.
Authorities confirmed that a third individual was injured in the incident and was transported to a hospital for treatment. Officials have not released that person’s name or current condition.
Law enforcement agencies are actively investigating the circumstances surrounding the shooting. At this time, officials have not announced any arrests or provided details regarding potential suspects.
In the wake of the incident, South Carolina State University’s Board of Trustees announced it will hold an emergency meeting at 5 p.m. to address the situation.
