Authorities in Jo Daviess County have released details surrounding the death of a Rochester High School student who passed away Friday night.
According to the Jo Daviess County Sheriff’s Office, 911 dispatchers received a call around 9:08 p.m. on February 13, 2026, reporting a possible drowning at Chestnut Mountain Resort in Galena.
The report states that the student, later identified by the Jo Daviess County Coroner’s Office as Jack Zucco, had been swimming in a pool when he appeared to lose consciousness. Another juvenile at the scene pulled him from the water before emergency responders arrived.
EMS personnel began life-saving measures while awaiting the arrival of an air ambulance. Despite their efforts, Zucco was pronounced deceased at the scene.
Authorities emphasized that the incident is being thoroughly investigated. No additional details regarding the circumstances have been released at this time.
