Authorities have identified a woman who died following a shooting in Birmingham on Tuesday evening.
According to the Jefferson County Coroner’s Office, the victim has been identified as 20-year-old Shaneka Renee Hicks of Birmingham. Officials said she sustained gunshot injuries during a reported assault in the 3100 block of 12th Avenue North.
The shooting was reported at approximately 8:04 p.m., authorities said. Emergency responders arrived at the scene and Hicks was transported to UAB-St. Vincent’s Hospital for treatment. Despite medical efforts, she was pronounced dead at 8:51 p.m., according to the coroner’s office.
Officials confirmed that her passing is being investigated as a homicide.
