Authorities in Cobb County are investigating the shooting death of a 24-year-old woman that occurred outside the city limits of Smyrna.
According to the Cobb County Police Department, officers responded to a report of a person who had been shot shortly before 8 a.m. Friday at a location on Waldrep Circle. When officers arrived at the scene, they found a woman who had died from gunshot injuries.
Authorities later identified the victim as 24-year-old Favia Velasquez. Officials confirmed that she was pronounced dead at the scene.
Following the discovery, detectives with the Cobb County Police Department’s Major Crimes Unit were called to the location and assumed responsibility for the investigation. Police said investigators began collecting evidence and reviewing the circumstances surrounding the incident.
The victim was transported to the Cobb County Medical Examiner’s Office for further examination as part of the investigative process.
