Authorities say a woman who had previously been reported missing in the metro Detroit area has been found deceased in Lake Erie, according to local officials.
The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office reported that deputies were called around 11:37 a.m. Saturday after receiving a report of a body floating offshore near the 13000 block of Shady Lane, in the area of Bolles Harbor.
Officials later identified the woman as Jeanne Renee Peterson, 34, of Sterling Heights, Michigan. Authorities said Peterson had previously been reported missing and was last seen on December 19 near the MacArthur Bridge.
After the discovery, emergency responders recovered the body from the water. Officials said Peterson’s remains were transported to the Lucas County Coroner’s Office for an autopsy as part of the ongoing investigation.
Law enforcement agencies say they are continuing to review the circumstances surrounding the case. Investigators have not yet released further details as they work to determine the events leading up to the discovery.
Authorities are asking anyone who may have information related to the case to contact the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office Detective Bureau.
