Authorities in Dubuque have identified the teenager who died following a shooting late Monday night.
According to the Dubuque Police Department, officers were called to the area of West Locust and Foye streets at around 10 p.m. after receiving reports of gunfire in the neighborhood. When officers arrived at the scene, they found a teenage boy suffering from a gunshot injury.
Police later identified the victim as 16-year-old Jakory McMillian of Dubuque. Officials initially reported that the victim was 15 years old but later corrected the information, confirming that he was 16.
Officers at the scene immediately began providing medical assistance while awaiting emergency medical responders. McMillian was then transported to UnityPoint Health–Finley Hospital for further treatment. Despite efforts by medical personnel, authorities confirmed that he later died at the hospital.
The Dubuque Police Department has stated that the investigation into the incident remains ongoing. Detectives are continuing to gather information and review evidence in order to better understand the circumstances surrounding the shooting.
Officials have not yet released additional details about what may have led to the incident or whether any suspects have been identified.
