Authorities in Harris County have released new details following a tragic incident at a residence in the Cloverleaf area that left a woman dead and led to the arrest of a suspect.
According to the Harris County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded shortly after 1 p.m. on Saturday to reports of a shooting at a home on Texarkana Street. When officers arrived, they discovered an adult woman suffering from a gunshot-related injury. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
Officials later identified the victim as 39-year-old Yanira Nafin. In an update provided Sunday, Sheriff Ed Gonzalez confirmed that a suspect had been taken into custody in connection with the case. The individual, identified as 43-year-old Jose Arquimides Romero, was described as Nafin’s common-law husband.
Investigators believe the incident followed a dispute inside the home. Preliminary findings suggest the disagreement may have been linked to a personal matter, though authorities have not released extensive details about what led to the confrontation.
At the time of the incident, three children were reportedly inside the residence. Authorities said the children were not physically harmed and were able to remain safe during the situation.
Officials noted that the suspect remained at the scene after the incident and was taken into custody without further incident. He has since been charged in connection with the case and booked into the Harris County Jail.
Homicide detectives are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the event, including reviewing evidence and speaking with individuals who may have information.
Authorities have not released additional details as the case moves forward. Further updates are expected as investigators continue their work and court proceedings begin.
