Authorities have identified a man whose body was discovered near Chicago Executive Airport in north suburban Wheeling, as officials continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding his death.

According to police in Prospect Heights, officers responded Sunday morning to a report of an unresponsive individual near the fence line by a public viewing area along Palatine Frontage Road. Upon arrival, first responders located a man who showed no signs of life. Personnel from the local fire district confirmed the death at the scene.

On Monday, the Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office identified the individual as 68-year-old John Folan. Authorities said efforts were initially underway to notify family members before releasing his identity publicly.

Investigators have not yet determined the exact cause of death. However, preliminary information suggests the possibility that the incident may be related to a crash. Officials cautioned that this remains an early assessment and has not been confirmed.

An autopsy has been scheduled as part of the ongoing investigation, which is expected to provide further clarity on what occurred. Law enforcement officials have not released additional details about the events leading up to the discovery.

The area near the airport, which includes a designated viewing space for the public, was temporarily secured as authorities conducted their initial examination. No immediate threat to the public has been reported.

Officials say updates will be shared as more information becomes available. The investigation remains active as authorities work to establish the full circumstances surrounding the incident.
