Richard Vant Hul Obituary, Death – The names of the individuals involved in a fatal crash in Deuel County this week have been officially released by the Department of Public Safety. The tragic accident occurred on US 212 near mile marker 399, which is located approximately 10 miles northeast of Clear Lake, South Dakota, around 5:45 p.m.
According to the investigation, Richard Vant Hul, 58, from Sioux Falls, was driving eastbound on US 212. Meanwhile, Kevin Mengich, 47, from White Bear Lake, Minnesota, was traveling westbound on the same road. As Mengich attempted to pass a vehicle in front of him, he crossed into the eastbound lanes. Unfortunately, he collided head-on with the vehicle driven by Vant Hul.
The collision was fatal for Vant Hul, who was pronounced dead at the scene. Mengich, on the other hand, was transported to a Sioux Falls hospital with serious injuries, although they were not life-threatening. The crash investigation revealed that both drivers were wearing seat belts at the time of the accident.
Authorities have confirmed that they are continuing to investigate the cause of the crash.
