Andrew Williams Obituary, Death – The Charleston County Coroner’s Office has identified the individual shot and killed by police during a Thursday morning disturbance in downtown Charleston. The victim, Andrew Williams, 37, succumbed to a gunshot wound at the Medical University of South Carolina at 10:47 a.m., officials reported.

The Charleston Police Department had responded to reports of an altercation between two men at the intersection of King and Line Streets. During the confrontation, one of the men reportedly displayed a firearm. In response, two police officers discharged their weapons, fatally wounding Williams, according to authorities.

As standard procedure in officer-involved shootings, the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED) has been called to lead an investigation into the incident. Further details have not yet been released.
