David P. Marquez Jr Obituary, Death – The Kern County Coroner’s Office has identified the victim of a fatal crash on November 13 as 31-year-old David P. Marquez Jr. of Lamont. The accident occurred around 9:03 p.m. on Weedpatch Highway at the intersection with East Fairview Road, north of Lamont, prompting a response from the California Highway Patrol (CHP).

According to a preliminary investigation by CHP, a 2013 Freightliner, which was pulling two tank trailers, was traveling on East Fairview Road. The truck was making a turn onto northbound Highway 184 at approximately 15 miles per hour. Meanwhile, a 2005 Nissan Murano was traveling northbound on Weedpatch Highway at an undetermined speed, approaching the intersection.

The investigation suggests that the Nissan was unable to avoid the Freightliner. As a result, the front of the Nissan collided with the left side of the first tank trailer being pulled by the Freightliner. The force of the crash resulted in the death of the Nissan’s driver, identified as Marquez Jr., who was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the Freightliner immediately stopped and cooperated with the investigation. At this time, authorities have not determined whether alcohol or drugs were factors in the crash, and the investigation remains ongoing.
