Jeffrey Allen Blue Obituary, Death – The Ogden City Police Department held a press conference on Tuesday to provide further details about a fatal shooting that occurred over the weekend involving one of its officers. The incident took place on Sunday around noon when officers responded to a request for assistance from a woman who needed help gathering her belongings from her home, located on the 900 block of 1050 North Street. The woman requested police presence to ensure peace while she collected her items.
Police Chief Jacob Sube identified the man who was killed in the incident as 45-year-old Jeffrey Allen Blue, the estranged husband of the woman involved. Initially, Blue was described as being uncooperative and confrontational when officers arrived on the scene. Due to his behavior, the first officer on-site called for backup, waiting for a second officer before proceeding with the situation.
Once both officers and the woman entered the home, Blue’s behavior escalated. According to Chief Sube, Blue became “angry and confrontational” and made a threatening remark about retrieving a gun. At that point, Blue turned and walked further into the home, where he allegedly retrieved what appeared to be a handgun. In response to the threat, one of the officers fired his weapon, striking Blue.
Officers at the scene immediately began providing first aid to Blue until medical personnel arrived. Despite their efforts, Blue was pronounced dead at the scene. The incident was subsequently investigated by the Weber County Critical Incident Team, which found that the object Blue had retrieved was a replica firearm designed to closely resemble a real weapon.
Chief Sube emphasized that while the object was confirmed to be a replica, it did not lessen the gravity of the situation that the officers faced. He acknowledged the challenging and high-pressure nature of law enforcement work, where officers are often forced to make life-or-death decisions in mere seconds, with unpredictable circumstances and risks to their safety. The situation highlighted the dangers that law enforcement officers face while trying to protect the public and maintain their own safety.
The officers involved in the shooting have been placed on administrative leave, following the department’s standard procedure in such incidents. Chief Sube stated that the entire event was captured by body-worn cameras, calling the footage a crucial piece of evidence in the ongoing investigation. This footage is currently in the custody of the Weber County Critical Incident Team for further analysis.
In addition to the external investigation, the Ogden City Police Department is conducting its own internal review of the incident. Chief Sube indicated that the department is assessing whether its policies and procedures were followed during the response. The department is also looking for opportunities to learn from the incident and improve its approach in the future.
While Chief Sube acknowledged that children lived at the residence where the shooting occurred, he could not confirm their relationship to the couple or whether they were present during the incident. He also mentioned that the department had responded to the home on multiple previous occasions, though he did not provide specific details about those prior incidents.
The police chief concluded his statement by emphasizing the importance of transparency in these types of situations. He expressed condolences to the family of Jeffrey Allen Blue, as well as to the family members of everyone involved, recognizing the emotional toll such events take on all parties. “Our thoughts remain with those feeling the weight of this difficult circumstance,” he said, underlining the department’s commitment to understanding and learning from the incident.
This fatal shooting is now under investigation by multiple authorities, and it serves as an important reminder of the risks and pressures faced by law enforcement officers, as well as the complexities of responding to domestic incidents where violence can erupt unexpectedly.
