Scott Herring Obituary, Death – Scott Herring, a 58-year-old resident of Meyersdale, has been identified as the man found deceased in Flaugherty Creek on November 27, according to Somerset County Coroner Cullen Swank. The cause and manner of Herring’s death remain under investigation, with toxicology and other tests pending. Swank noted that results from these examinations could take four to six weeks.
Herring’s history includes a prior legal incident earlier this year. On May 21, Pennsylvania State Police arrested him after he was observed walking on Large Street in Meyersdale while carrying a handgun and yelling at people. Following this event, Herring faced multiple charges, including making terroristic threats, simple assault, reckless endangerment, disorderly conduct, and criminal trespass.
Court records show that on September 5, Herring pleaded guilty to the charge of making terroristic threats, classified as a third-degree felony. As part of a plea agreement, the other charges were dismissed. On October 28, Judge Scott Bittner sentenced Herring to a term of four to 23 months in the Somerset County Jail.
However, Herring was released from jail the same day he was sentenced. According to Lt. Geoff Parrish of the Somerset County Jail, records confirm his release, which may have been due to credit for time served while awaiting trial. Efforts have been made to reach the Somerset County Public Defender’s Office to verify this detail.
