Gianfranco Scirocco Obituary, Death – A DeLand man was fatally injured Thursday night in Orange City after falling from a pickup truck during a U-turn and being struck by another vehicle. The victim was identified as 53-year-old Gianfranco Scirocco. The incident occurred at 8:20 p.m. at the intersection of U.S. 17-92 and May Street.

When police arrived, they found Scirocco in the inside southbound lane of 17-92, where he was pronounced dead. Investigators determined that Scirocco was a passenger in a 2017 white Chevrolet pickup, driven by 54-year-old Renee Skinner of Orange City. Skinner was traveling southbound on 17-92 when, for reasons unknown, she attempted a U-turn. During the maneuver, Scirocco was ejected from the vehicle.

Witnesses reported seeing the pickup driving erratically just before the crash, with the passenger door opening and closing repeatedly. As Skinner attempted the U-turn at the intersection of 17-92 and May Street, Scirocco fell onto the road, where he was then struck by a 2003 Hyundai hatchback driven by 47-year-old Byron Kohl of Astor.

Both Skinner and Kohl remained at the scene after the crash. The Orange City Police Department’s Traffic Homicide Unit is investigating the incident. Authorities are asking anyone with information to contact Traffic Homicide Sergeant Brian Kibbe or Investigator Officer Steven Neily at 386-775-5474.
