Markazsa Perry Obituary, Death – Fresno Police have identified the 31-year-old woman killed in a shooting on Wednesday after approximately 40 shots were fired at her. The victim, Markazsa Perry, was fatally wounded in the shooting, which occurred at around 4:15 p.m. on East Samson Avenue in Fresno. Authorities responded to a call about a shooting and found Perry with a single gunshot wound in the backyard of a home. She was immediately transported to Community Regional Medical Center but was later pronounced dead.
According to investigators, Perry was in the backyard with other individuals when three male suspects arrived at the scene. The suspects, who are described as Black male adults, opened fire from a distance of about 40 yards, using multiple firearms. In total, around 40 rounds were fired in the general direction of Perry and those with her. After the shooting, the suspects fled the scene on foot and possibly drove away in a vehicle.
Lieutenant Paul Cervantes of the Fresno Police Department emphasized the severity of the situation, noting that the large number of rounds fired could have resulted in more casualties. “It’s only, by the grace of God, that we don’t have more people who were struck by gunfire,” he said, highlighting the danger posed by the attack.
Police believe there may be a connection between the suspects and possibly a gang-related motive, and they are coordinating with a multi-agency gang enforcement consortium to investigate further. However, it remains unclear whether Perry was specifically targeted in the shooting.
