The incident occurred on the evening of November 24, around 9:22 p.m., when Lopez Marin, a Spring Valley resident, was attempting to cross the eastbound lanes of SR-78 between Rock Springs Road and Centre City Parkway.
While running across the busy highway, Lopez Marin was struck by a Toyota SUV. Emergency responders arrived at the scene and pronounced him dead upon arrival. The driver of the SUV, a 28-year-old woman, and her 19-year-old passenger remained at the scene and were uninjured in the crash, according to the California Highway Patrol (CHP). Authorities have classified Lopez Marin’s death as accidental.
