Cameron Richardson Obituary, Death – A tragic incident unfolded on Detroit’s east side early Sunday morning, claiming the life of a Detroit police officer in a hit-and-run crash. Officer Cameron Richardson, who had been with the department for just over a year, was driving home after his shift when the accident occurred around midnight at the intersection of Hoover Street and Greiner Street.
According to police, Richardson was in his Jeep Wrangler when a motorist, allegedly driving a white van, attempted to turn into the intersection and collided with Richardson’s vehicle. The impact caused the Jeep to roll over. Sadly, Richardson succumbed to his injuries shortly after the crash.
Witnesses reported that the van fled the scene immediately following the collision. However, Michigan State Police later located the van not far from the intersection. During the investigation, authorities allegedly discovered a firearm inside the van.
Subsequent to the incident, two search warrants were executed, leading to the arrest of a couple of individuals who were passengers in the van at the time of the crash. Despite these arrests, the driver, identified as a 28-year-old man, remains at large. Detroit police are actively engaging with the driver’s family, urging him to surrender.
Richardson, remembered for his conscientious nature and thorough work, had served in the U.S. Army before joining the Detroit Police Department. He leaves behind two daughters. The police department and the community are mourning his untimely death, while the investigation into the hit-and-run continues.
