Joseph Douglas Wheeler – A fatal crash during the Tuesday morning rush hour on the I-94 Edens Expressway has been identified by the Cook County Medical Examiner. Joseph Douglas Wheeler, a 35-year-old from Chicago, was killed after his vehicle struck a concrete barrier at around 7:11 a.m. in the westbound lanes near Winnetka Road. Wheeler, the only person in the vehicle, was rushed to a nearby hospital with life-threatening injuries but was later pronounced dead.

Photos and videos from the scene showed emergency crews examining a car with significant damage, including a hole in the driver’s side windshield and damage to the driver’s side window and rearview mirror.

Illinois State Police Troop 3 has reached out to the public for help in their investigation. In a Facebook post, they requested that anyone who was driving in the area at the time, witnessed the crash, or has dash camera footage to submit tips online or contact ISP Troop 3 directly. The authorities are seeking any information that might assist in understanding the circumstances of the accident.
