Franklin Roosevelt Lee Death News – Franklin Roosevelt Lee, a 64-year-old man, was identified as the victim of a fatal shooting that occurred early Friday morning in Harrisburg, authorities reported on Monday. The incident happened around 6:45 a.m. at Lee’s residence on the 1200 block of Walnut Street. District Attorney Fran Chardo confirmed the details, stating that another man was also injured in the event, sustaining a gunshot wound to his hand.
Harrisburg Police Lt. Kyle Gautsch identified the injured man as a person of interest in the homicide. After an initial interview, he was released without charges, though the investigation continues. Chardo mentioned that the possibility of self-defense in Lee’s death is being examined by investigators.
Lee’s death marks the first homicide in Harrisburg for 2025. Since then, two more homicides have occurred, bringing the total to three, compared to zero at this time last year. This increase follows a record-setting year in 2024, which saw 23 homicides in the city.
The day after Lee’s shooting, another fatal incident took place when a 57-year-old woman was killed on the 300 block of Hummel Street. According to neighbors, she was hit by a stray bullet after opening her window, though she was not the intended target. Lt. Gautsch indicated that this homicide, unlike Lee’s, might have gang-related connections.
Additionally, a man was shot and killed in the early hours of Monday near the intersection of 18th and Carnation Street. Police are investigating potential links between this shooting and the one on Hummel Street, as both may be connected to gang activity.
Last year, five homicides in the city were attributed to gangs. The county’s part-time gang task force collaborates with local municipalities, but there are calls for a full-time task force to more effectively monitor and mitigate gang-related violence.
No arrests have been made in any of the recent homicides. Authorities are urging anyone with information to contact Harrisburg police at 717-558-6900 or to submit tips through CrimeWatch.
