Suniel Michael Ross – A Rhode Island man, identified as 41-year-old Suniel Michael Ross from Woonsocket, was fatally struck by an SUV on Interstate 95 in Connecticut, leading to hours-long highway closure on Wednesday. The incident occurred around 12:25 p.m. near Exit 43 in the northbound lanes.
According to Connecticut State Police, Ross ran across three southbound lanes before crossing into the center median, though the reason for his actions remains unclear. He then jumped over the median and entered the left northbound lane, prompting a vehicle to stop abruptly.
A 2010 Toyota RAV4, driving behind the stopped car, swerved into the center lane to avoid a collision and struck Ross as he moved into the lane. Ross was transported to Yale New Haven Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries. The Toyota driver reported no injuries.
The crash investigation caused the northbound lanes of I-95 to be closed for several hours. Authorities continue to investigate and have asked for any witnesses or anyone with dash camera footage to contact Trooper Rahiem Farrow at Troop G in Bridgeport.
The investigation into the cause and circumstances of the incident is ongoing.
