Richard Allen Ray Obituary, Death – The pedestrian who was struck and killed Sunday night along eastbound Highway 50 in Sacramento has been identified as 36-year-old Richard Allen Ray. The incident occurred around 10 p.m. in the No. 3 lane, near the area just west of 15th Street.
According to Officer Mark Leavitt, a spokesman for the California Highway Patrol (CHP) South Sacramento division, Ray was hit by a red Kia Forte traveling at approximately 65 mph. The driver of the Kia noticed something in the roadway but could not identify what it was until the collision occurred. It was later confirmed by officials that the object in the road was Ray.
“The driver had no time to swerve or stop to avoid a collision,” the CHP stated in a news release. The impact with the left front of the Kia caused fatal injuries to Ray, and he was pronounced dead at the scene by emergency responders.
The CHP confirmed that no other vehicles were involved in the crash, and the driver of the Kia, along with her passengers, did not sustain any injuries from the incident. The investigation into the circumstances leading to Ray being on the highway is ongoing, as authorities continue to gather more information about the tragic event.
