Patricia Pendergast Obituary, Death – Authorities have identified the victim of a fatal house fire in Apalachin as 85-year-old Patricia Pendergast. Despite being rescued alive from the burning residence, Pendergast succumbed to her injuries several hours later at a local hospital, according to the New York State Police.
The Apalachin Fire Department reported that the fire broke out early on January 29 in the 400 block of Main Street. A neighbor called emergency services to report the blaze. Fire crews arrived within minutes and discovered that Pendergast was trapped inside the home.
Emergency responders worked to rescue her from the fire, but unfortunately, her injuries proved fatal. No other casualties were reported, and it is unclear whether anyone else was inside the house at the time of the fire.
The cause of the blaze remains under investigation. Authorities have not yet released any preliminary findings regarding the origin of the fire.
Multiple agencies assisted in managing the emergency and subsequent investigation. Along with the Apalachin Fire Department and New York State Police, the Tioga County Sheriff’s Office, Campville Fire Department, Owego Fire Department, Owego EMS, Tioga County Office of Emergency Services, and the Tioga County Fire Investigation Team were all involved in the response.
