Jamarr Thompson Obituary, Death – Delaware State Police have identified the victim of a Wilmington shooting that occurred last week, confirming that 19-year-old Jamarr Thompson succumbed to his injuries several days after the incident.
Details of the Shooting
The shooting took place on February 19 at approximately 4:30 p.m. near East Lea Boulevard and Route 13 (North Market Street). Initially, authorities reported that Thompson had died at the scene, but they later corrected this information, stating he remained in critical condition. However, by Friday, police confirmed that Thompson had passed away, though the exact time of his death remains unclear.
Troopers responding to the scene found Thompson with severe injuries and began administering first aid. Paramedics rushed him to a nearby hospital, where he remained under critical care until his passing.
Investigation and Arrests
During the investigation, detectives discovered that Thompson had been dropped off at the Advanced Auto Parts store located at 4200 North Market Street. He was walking toward a residence on East Lea Boulevard when he was shot.
Authorities identified Darmond Green as the suspected shooter. According to police, Green fled on foot after firing the shots, running toward the rear of the Advanced Auto Parts parking lot, where a Hyundai Santa Fe was waiting to pick him up before quickly leaving the scene.
On Thursday, Wilmington police conducted a traffic stop on the Hyundai, leading to the arrest of Green and a 20-year-old woman. Police allege that the woman assisted Green in disposing of evidence after the shooting.
Charges and Legal Proceedings
Green was charged with attempted murder, multiple firearm offenses, tampering with evidence, and conspiracy— all felony charges. The woman faced charges of tampering with evidence, hindering prosecution, providing false information to police, and conspiracy, which are also felonies.
Following their arrests, Green was held on a bond exceeding $1 million in cash, while a magistrate from the Justice of the Peace Court released the woman on an unsecured bond.
With Thompson’s death now confirmed, Delaware State Police announced Monday that Green’s charges would be upgraded accordingly. The case remains under investigation as authorities continue to gather evidence.
