Laterrika Woods Obituary, Death – A 29-year-old Memphis woman lost her life following a high-speed police chase that ended in a crash on eastbound Interstate 40 in Arkansas.
The incident began on Tuesday, March 25, 2025, when an Arkansas State Police (ASP) trooper attempted to stop a white Dodge Ram pickup truck near the 173-mile marker in Lonoke County for a traffic violation. Instead of complying, the driver sped away, leading officers on an 18-mile pursuit.
Authorities said the suspect reached speeds of over 120 mph, weaving between cars and passing vehicles on the right shoulder, posing a serious danger to others on the road.
During the chase, the truck eventually crashed, causing multiple occupants to be ejected from the vehicle. One of them, 29-year-old Laterrika Woods of Memphis, was thrown from the truck and pronounced dead at the scene. Another passenger, 26-year-old Latarica Walker, also from Memphis, was ejected and suffered critical injuries. She was airlifted to a nearby hospital, where she remains in critical condition.
The driver, identified as 30-year-old Torkilo Hambrick, and another passenger, 45-year-old Zuri Jones, both from Memphis, sustained injuries but were reported to be in stable condition after being transported to a local medical center.
Authorities confirmed that charges are pending against Hambrick in connection with Woods’ death.
Following the crash, investigators searched the vehicle and found two firearms, an unspecified amount of cash, a bottle of promethazine, marijuana, and other narcotics. Officials also discovered that Hambrick had an outstanding extradition warrant from Shelby County, Tennessee, for probation violation. In addition, he is listed as a registered sex offender.
The body of the deceased will be sent to the Arkansas State Crime Lab for an official determination of the cause and manner of death. The Arkansas State Police continue to investigate the case.
