Jessica Jordan Obituary, Death – Delaware State Police have released the identity of the woman killed in a tragic accident on Tuesday after being struck by a pickup truck that veered onto the shoulder of a highway off-ramp. The victim has been identified as 37-year-old Jessica Jordan of New Castle.

The fatal crash occurred around 5 p.m. on the Route 1 off-ramp leading to Route 40 (Pulaski Highway) in Bear. Jordan and a 39-year-old man were stopped on the shoulder due to a mechanical issue with their vehicle, which had a damaged front left wheel. The man was attempting to change the tire while Jordan stood near the rear of the car when the collision happened.

According to Delaware State Police, a 74-year-old driver from Bear was navigating a curve in the off-ramp when he drifted onto the shoulder. His vehicle first struck Jordan before hitting the rear left side of the disabled car. The impact then caused the pickup to collide with the man who had been working on the tire.

Emergency responders arrived at the scene and transported both Jordan and the 39-year-old man to a nearby hospital. Tragically, Jordan succumbed to her injuries. The man sustained injuries as well, but authorities confirmed that they were not life-threatening. The driver of the pickup truck suffered only minor injuries and was treated at the scene.

Following the accident, state troopers closed the off-ramp for approximately four hours to conduct an investigation. Officials have not disclosed whether the driver faced any citations or charges in connection with the crash.

The tragic incident highlights the dangers of stopping on highway shoulders, even for necessary roadside repairs. Accidents involving disabled vehicles often occur when passing drivers fail to notice or properly navigate around them. Authorities emphasize the importance of driver awareness, particularly on curved roadways where visibility may be reduced.

The loss of Jessica Jordan has deeply impacted her family and community. Loved ones remember her as a kind and compassionate person, and her sudden passing serves as a reminder of the risks motorists face when pulled over on the side of the road.

As investigations continue, law enforcement urges drivers to exercise caution when traveling near disabled vehicles and to always remain attentive behind the wheel. The findings of the police investigation may determine if additional safety measures or legal actions are necessary to prevent similar tragedies in the future.
