Juan Rodriguez Obituary, Death – The Syracuse Police Department has released the name of the victim in a deadly shooting that took place during a particularly violent weekend in the city. The fatal incident occurred on Saturday, June 8, around 6 p.m. Officers responded to reports of gunfire in the 200 block of Westmoreland Avenue, near the Parkside Commons housing complex. When they arrived, police found Rodriguez suffering from a gunshot wound. He was rushed to Upstate University Hospital, but despite emergency medical efforts, he was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.
Police quickly secured the area, blocking off a portion of Westmoreland Avenue with crime scene tape. At the center of the taped-off zone was a Volvo SUV with California license plates, its doors left open. Investigators placed numerous evidence markers on the pavement, indicating where physical evidence, such as shell casings, may have been located.
As of Wednesday, authorities had not identified a suspect or made any arrests in connection with Rodriguez’s death. The case is being investigated as a homicide. Police are still collecting information and examining evidence as they try to determine what led to the fatal shooting.
Rodriguez’s death was one of several violent incidents that unfolded across Syracuse on June 8. Police responded to at least three other shootings that day—on Erie Boulevard West, Onondaga Avenue, and Park Street. All occurred within a span of a few hours. The first shooting was reported just after 1 p.m., with others following throughout the day.
Unlike the Westmoreland Avenue incident, the victims in the three other shootings survived and were listed in stable condition as of the evening of June 8. However, as of the latest police update, no arrests have been made in those cases either.
