The fatal accident took place early Wednesday morning at approximately 4:50 a.m. in the eastbound lanes of I-84 near Exit 15 in Southbury.
According to authorities, Lloyd was operating a Volvo tractor-trailer when, for reasons still under investigation, the vehicle veered into the median. After entering the median, the truck swerved back across the highway lanes, collided with a light pole, smashed through a guardrail, and then plunged down an embankment into a wooded area.
The force of the crash caused Lloyd to be ejected from the cab of the truck. Emergency responders arriving on the scene pronounced him dead due to the severity of his injuries. It was not immediately clear whether Lloyd had been wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash.
