David Hawkins Obituary, Death – A man from Omaha died in a crash early Sunday morning in Pottawattamie County, Iowa, after attempting to flee from law enforcement. According to a statement from the Pottawattamie County Sheriff’s Office, a deputy spotted a 2021 Mercedes-Benz driving erratically and crossing the centerline on Highway 92 near Hope Lane around 3:15 a.m. The deputy turned on their emergency lights and siren in an effort to initiate a traffic stop.

Instead of pulling over, the driver of the Mercedes attempted to evade the deputy and continued heading east. While fleeing, the vehicle eventually left the roadway and entered the south ditch. The crash caused significant damage to the car.

Emergency responders arrived quickly on the scene and found the driver, identified as 44-year-old David Hawkins of Omaha, critically injured. Despite life-saving efforts by EMS personnel, Hawkins was pronounced dead at the scene.

Because of the severity of the crash, the Pottawattamie County Traffic Accident Investigation team was called to the scene to further assess and document the incident. The exact cause of the crash remains under investigation, and no further details have been released at this time.

Authorities have not yet confirmed why Hawkins attempted to flee or if any other factors such as speed or impairment may have contributed to the fatal crash. The sheriff’s office is continuing its investigation to gather more information and determine what led to the deadly outcome.
