Isiah McCarthy, Tyrant Sutton Obituary, Death – It has been a particularly violent week in Allegheny County, where at least eight people were injured in three separate shootings. Among the victims were two 16-year-old boys who died after being shot in Pitcairn.
According to Allegheny County police, the individuals connected to the deadly Pitcairn shooting have been identified, and the district attorney’s office is reviewing the case to determine if charges should be filed.
The shooting happened just after 3 p.m. on Wednesday in Shaw Alley, near Wood Street in Pitcairn. Emergency responders arrived to find two teenage boys suffering from gunshot wounds. Both were rushed to a hospital but later succumbed to their injuries. The victims were identified as Isiah McCarthy of Pitcairn and Tyrant Sutton of Clairton.
Eyewitnesses reported seeing three people fleeing Shaw Alley moments after the shots were fired. This account is supported by surveillance video from nearby residents.
Directly across from where the shooting occurred stands the Pitcairn Assembly of God church. Charles Palmer, a board member of the church involved in youth outreach, expressed deep sorrow over the shooting. While the violence was distressing, Palmer said it didn’t come as a complete shock.
“They don’t know how to deal with their anger,” Palmer explained. “Our role is to help guide them, and when something like this happens, it’s heartbreaking but also a reminder of how important our work is.”
Palmer extended a message of compassion to local youth, inviting them to the church if they needed guidance or support. “If you have questions or need prayer, come here. We’ll be here for you,” he said.
Sutton was a student in the Clairton City School District. The district issued a statement acknowledging the tragedy, noting that even though the incident occurred outside their immediate community, the death of a current and former student to gun violence deeply affects everyone.
As of now, police have not made any arrests, and it is still unknown what charges may result from the investigation. Allegheny County police Sgt. Todd Dolfi commented, “Any death is tragic, but it strikes even harder when the victim is a juvenile.”
The Pitcairn shooting is one of several acts of violence in the region this week. On Thursday evening, another teenage boy was shot in McKeesport’s 1800 block of Powers Street. He survived and is in stable condition.
Additionally, on Sunday night, five people were shot near Garland Park in Pittsburgh’s East Liberty area. Authorities said over a dozen shots were fired during the incident. An 18-year-old suspect has been taken into custody on firearms charges in connection with that shooting.
Reflecting on the week’s violence, Palmer noted, “You’d be surprised what these children are going through.”
For now, the investigation into the Pitcairn shooting is still active, and officials have not yet disclosed who, if anyone, will face criminal charges.
