Jacob Klaver – Authorities in the Village of Holmen are investigating a homicide after an unresponsive man was found dead in a residence late last month. A suspect has now been taken into custody in connection with the case.
According to the Holmen Police Department, officers were dispatched to a home at 815 Granum Street on June 29, 2025, following a call about an unresponsive male inside the residence. Emergency responders arrived at the scene around 5:39 a.m. and found the man deceased.
Following an initial investigation, authorities determined the man’s death was the result of a homicide. However, officials have not yet released details regarding the cause of death or any additional circumstances surrounding the incident. The name of the victim has also not been made public at this time.
As the investigation unfolded, detectives identified 38-year-old Jacob Klaver of Winona, Minnesota, as a suspect in the case. After several days of investigation and coordination between law enforcement agencies, Klaver was located and apprehended on the evening of July 2, 2025, in Winona.
Police report that Klaver was taken into custody without incident at approximately 8:58 p.m. He is currently being held in Minnesota and is awaiting extradition to Wisconsin, where he will face charges. Authorities have stated that Klaver is suspected of first-degree intentional homicide, a serious offense that carries a potential life sentence under Wisconsin law.
At this stage, the motive behind the homicide has not been disclosed, and officials have not confirmed the nature of Klaver’s relationship, if any, with the victim. Investigators are continuing to gather evidence and interview potential witnesses as they work to build their case.
Holmen police have expressed gratitude for the cooperation and assistance provided by other agencies, including the Winona Police Department and other local authorities, in helping locate and arrest the suspect.
The small village of Holmen, located in La Crosse County, has been shaken by the news of the homicide, as such incidents are rare in the area. The police department is urging anyone with information related to the case to come forward and assist in the ongoing investigation.
While the victim’s identity has not yet been made public, officials indicated that the release of that information may follow pending notification of next of kin and further investigative progress.
More details are expected to emerge in the coming days as the legal process begins and Klaver is formally charged and extradited to Wisconsin. For now, the case remains under active investigation, and authorities are focused on securing a full and thorough resolution.
Community members are encouraged to remain alert but reassured that police have taken swift action in securing the suspect and continuing efforts to ensure public safety in Holmen.
