Cameron Moore Obituary, Death – Columbus police have identified the 17-year-old boy who was killed in a shooting at a party early Friday morning at a short-term rental home. The victim, Cameron Moore, died after being shot during the gathering, which left five other people injured.
Officers with the Columbus Division of Police responded around 2:40 a.m. to a residence in the 800 block of Wilson Avenue, located near East Livingston Avenue in the city’s South Side. The call came in as a report of a shooting at a house party.
According to Sgt. Joe Albert, officers arrived to find three individuals suffering from gunshot wounds. Three other people with similar injuries later arrived at area hospitals. In total, six people were shot — two of them juveniles and four adults.
Moore was transported to Grant Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead at 3:09 a.m. The other five victims received treatment at local hospitals, and authorities confirmed that none of their injuries were life-threatening.
Police believe the suspect entered the property after the party had already begun, but no further details have been released about the motive or events that led to the shooting. Investigators have asked the public to come forward with any videos or information that may help in the case. Earl Jones, who was hired as security for the event, said he was informed it would be a small gathering. However, the actual turnout reached around 250 people. The large crowd has raised concerns about the safety and oversight of such events, especially when minors are involved.
In the aftermath, city leaders expressed sorrow and frustration. Mayor Andrew Ginther said he was heartbroken over the loss of a young life and emphasized the need for the community to remain vigilant, even as overall violence in Columbus is at its lowest in over ten years. He urged residents to cooperate with police and ensure safety during the holiday weekend.
Columbus City Council President Shannon Hardin also voiced his anger and grief over the shooting. In a public statement, he called on the community to speak out, act responsibly, and work together to protect one another, especially during events like the upcoming Fourth of July celebrations.

She reflected on how the city had celebrated peacefully the previous night, only to wake up to the heartbreaking news of a deadly tragedy. She urged parents, neighbors, and community members to take action — by enforcing curfews, staying informed about their children’s whereabouts, and reporting large gatherings at rental homes, especially those involving minors.
St. Clair emphasized the importance of accountability and collective responsibility, stating that keeping children safe must be a shared mission for the entire community.
