Guy House Suspect – The Fayette County Coroner, Gary Ginn, has officially identified the man responsible for a tragic church shooting in Lexington that claimed the lives of two women. According to a statement from the coroner’s office, the shooter has been identified as 47-year-old Guy House. He died from a gunshot wound at the Richmond Road Baptist Church, where the fatal incident took place.
The events leading up to the shooting began earlier that Sunday morning. Lexington Police reported that the situation unfolded around 11:40 a.m. when officers responded to a report of a shooting involving a Kentucky State Police (KSP) trooper. The incident initially started on Terminal Drive near Blue Grass Airport, where House had been stopped by law enforcement. The stop was prompted by a license plate alert detected by traffic cameras, which flagged his vehicle for investigation.
During the traffic stop, House opened fire on the KSP trooper, injuring him before fleeing the scene. Police immediately began tracking House’s movements, which eventually led them to Old Richmond Road. He later abandoned his vehicle and entered the Richmond Road Baptist Church.
Once inside the church, House opened fire again, this time targeting civilians. Authorities said he shot four individuals, tragically killing two of them. The victims were identified as 72-year-old Beverly Gumm and 32-year-old Christina Combs. The identities and conditions of the other two individuals who were injured have not been released at this time.
The motive behind House’s actions remains under investigation, as police continue to piece together the sequence of events and any possible connections he may have had to the victims or the church. Officials have not confirmed whether House had any prior relationship with the church, the individuals involved, or the responding officers.
Lexington Police held a press conference following the tragedy to inform the public of the ongoing investigation and reassure the community. They noted that swift action by law enforcement helped contain the threat and prevent further harm, though the community remains deeply shaken by the violent event.
The fatal shooting has left residents in Lexington mourning the loss of two community members, and the church congregation reeling from the violence that occurred in what is typically considered a place of peace and refuge. Community leaders have expressed sorrow and called for support for the victims’ families as well as prayers for the recovery of those injured, including the state trooper.
As investigators continue to gather evidence and conduct interviews, more details are expected to emerge regarding House’s background, motives, and how he was able to carry out the attack. In the meantime, law enforcement agencies are working together to provide support for those affected and ensure that the area remains safe.
