Alan Christmas Obituary, Death – A tragic head-on collision in Cherokee County claimed the life of one person Thursday morning. Authorities were called to the crash site on Highway 160 near Northwest 50th Street, west of Columbus, just before 11 a.m. Emergency responders arrived to find two severely damaged vehicles and multiple injuries.
According to investigators, the crash occurred when a silver Nissan Xterra, driven by Randy Kirkpatrick of Oswego, Kansas, was traveling eastbound on Highway 160. Kirkpatrick reportedly attempted to pass two semi-trucks when he collided head-on with a Chevrolet pickup truck heading westbound. The Chevrolet was driven by Alan Christmas.
Emergency medical personnel transported Kirkpatrick to a nearby hospital with major injuries. However, Christmas did not survive the crash. Authorities confirmed that his next-of-kin has been notified.
The accident remains under investigation as officials work to determine the exact circumstances that led to the fatal collision.
