Alec A. Tucker Obituary, Death News – A tragic accident in La Porte County, Indiana, has claimed the life of a motorcyclist after a driver failed to yield the right of way. The La Porte County Sheriff’s Office (LCSO) responded to the crash Wednesday morning, where a motorcycle collided with a turning vehicle. The motorcyclist was transported to the hospital but later died from his injuries.
Details of the Fatal Crash
The accident occurred around 11:35 a.m. on March 12 at the intersection of U.S. 35 and County Road 400 South. According to authorities, the driver of a white 2023 Ford, identified as 68-year-old Amy M. Kollar of La Porte, was attempting to turn left from southbound U.S. 35 onto eastbound C.R. 400 South.
As Kollar turned, she failed to yield to an oncoming motorcycle traveling northbound on U.S. 35, leading to a violent collision. The blue 1993 Yamaha motorcycle was driven by 30-year-old Alec A. Tucker of Kingsford Heights. Emergency responders arrived quickly, and Tucker was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment. Unfortunately, despite medical efforts, he succumbed to his injuries.
Kollar was not injured in the crash. Authorities have stated that toxicology test results are pending, and no additional information has been released at this time.
Other Motorcycle Fatalities in the Region
Tucker’s tragic death is part of a disturbing pattern of motorcycle crashes in Michiana, where multiple motorcyclists have lost their lives in recent weeks due to drivers failing to yield.
On the same day as the La Porte crash, another accident in Elkhart County resulted in the deaths of two motorcyclists. That crash occurred on County Road 18, west of County Road 117, when a minivan failed to yield while making a left turn.
Authorities say the Chrysler minivan turned in front of a Harley-Davidson motorcycle, giving the rider no time to react. The motorcycle skidded before colliding with the minivan, leading to a fatal crash.
The victims were identified as 41-year-old Jason E. Bleiler of Goshen and his passenger, 38-year-old Crystal Woolums of Leesburg, Indiana. Both were pronounced dead at the scene.
Just weeks earlier, on February 25, another fatal motorcycle crash occurred in Elkhart County. In that incident, a 17-year-old motorcyclist was killed when a 54-year-old Goshen woman, driving a 2006 Ford Mustang, pulled out of a private driveway into the motorcycle’s path. Investigators later determined that the driver of the Ford was under the influence of cannabis at the time of the crash. She was subsequently arrested and charged with Operating While Intoxicated Causing Death.
Rising Concern Over Motorcycle Safety
In the past 16 days, four motorcyclists have been struck and killed in Michiana, with all three crashes being linked to drivers failing to yield the right of way. These tragic accidents highlight the vulnerability of motorcyclists and the need for greater awareness among motorists.
Motorcycle safety advocates urge drivers to double-check for motorcyclists before making turns, as motorcycles are smaller and can be harder to see in traffic. Failure to yield is one of the most common causes of motorcycle fatalities, and these recent deaths serve as a stark reminder of the risks riders face on the road.
Authorities continue to investigate these incidents and encourage all drivers to remain alert and cautious when sharing the road with motorcycles.
