Alexandria Current Obituary, Death – Woman fatally struck while crossing Patterson Avenue.A late-night crash in Henrico County claimed the life of a young woman who was struck while crossing Patterson Avenue on Wednesday. According to police, officers were called just before midnight to the intersection of Patterson Avenue and Westhampton Glen Drive after reports of a pedestrian-involved collision. When they arrived, they found a Nissan Altima along with two pedestrians who had been in the roadway at the time of the crash.

Authorities reported that one of the pedestrians, a woman later identified as 25-year-old Alexandria Current of Oklahoma, had sustained life-threatening injuries. She was rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment, but despite the efforts of medical staff, she died a short time later. The second pedestrian, an adult male who had been crossing with her, managed to avoid being hit and was not injured.

Preliminary findings suggest that Current and the man were attempting to cross the westbound lanes of Patterson Avenue at the time of the crash. A Nissan Altima, also traveling west, struck Current as she entered the roadway. The driver of the car remained at the scene and fully cooperated with police throughout the investigation.

In a statement, investigators said that alcohol, drugs, and speeding are not believed to be factors in the crash for either the driver or the pedestrians. Instead, police believe other conditions contributed to the tragic outcome, including low visibility, dark clothing, and the fact that the pedestrians were not crossing at a designated crosswalk or intersection. These elements, officers noted, likely reduced the driver’s ability to see Current in time to avoid the collision.

Authorities stressed that the case remains under investigation by the county’s crash team. They are working to gather additional details from witnesses and reviewing the scene to ensure all possible factors are accounted for. At this time, no charges have been announced against the driver.

Police are asking for the public’s help in piecing together the events of that night. Anyone who may have information about the crash is encouraged to reach out to Crash Investigator T. Holmes at 804-501-5000. Anonymous tips can also be submitted through Crime Stoppers at 804-780-1000.

The death of Alexandria Current is another reminder of the risks pedestrians face when crossing busy roadways, particularly at night and outside of designated crosswalks. Safety experts continually advise pedestrians to use marked crossings whenever possible, wear reflective or light-colored clothing in low-light conditions, and remain alert to traffic. Similarly, drivers are reminded to stay vigilant at all times, as pedestrians may be harder to see in poorly lit areas.

For now, family and friends are left mourning the sudden and tragic loss of a 25-year-old whose life ended far too soon. Police continue their investigation in hopes of providing clarity and closure in the aftermath of this heartbreaking crash.
