Amelia Reitz Obituary, Death – A tragic accident in Northumberland County has claimed the life of a 12-year-old girl, who has now been identified as Amelia Reitz. The deadly crash occurred Saturday evening on Reitz Road in Shamokin Township and involved a Utility Task Vehicle (UTV).
According to County Coroner James Kelley, Amelia died as a result of blunt force head trauma sustained when the UTV she was riding in overturned. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Pennsylvania State Police reported that there were four juveniles inside the UTV at the time of the crash. The vehicle was traveling on a private gravel driveway when it approached a left-hand curve. As the UTV made the turn, the driver’s side tire hit an embankment, causing the young operator to lose control of the vehicle.
Authorities say the UTV overturned as a result of the impact, leading to the fatal injuries suffered by Amelia. The identities of the other three juveniles involved and their conditions have not been released at this time.
The crash remains under active investigation, as officials work to determine whether any additional factors contributed to the incident.
