Andre Calmelet Obituary, Death – The Bridge City Police Department has provided additional details regarding a fatal crash that occurred on January 13, in which the driver of a pickup truck was killed following a collision with a Tesla on West Roundbunch Road.
Around 10 p.m. on Monday, officers responded to a 911 call reporting a two-vehicle crash in the 1300 block of FM 1442, also known as West Roundbunch Road. Upon arriving at the scene, police discovered the wreckage of a 2025 Tesla 4-door passenger car in the south ditch. The driver of the Tesla, 38-year-old Ross Sellers from Orange, was found at the scene and was transported to CHRISTUS St. Elizabeth Hospital’s emergency room with non-life-threatening injuries.
In the north ditch, officers found a 2014 Ford F-150 pickup truck that had overturned onto its driver’s side. The driver of the pickup, identified as 43-year-old Andre Calmelet from Beaumont, was still inside the vehicle. Police and bystanders worked together to extricate him from the truck. Despite efforts to administer CPR and revive him, Calmelet was pronounced dead at the scene.
The investigation revealed that both the Tesla and the Ford F-150 were traveling east on FM 1442 when the Ford F-150 struck the rear of the Tesla. The impact caused both vehicles to leave the road. As the Ford F-150 veered off the road, it entered the north ditch, where the front end of the truck collided with a concrete culvert.
Pct. 1 Justice of the Peace Hershel Stagner has ordered an autopsy to determine the cause of death. Authorities are continuing their investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crash.
Bridge City Police have not yet released additional details about what led to the collision, but the crash remains under investigation. The tragic incident serves as a reminder of the dangers of the road, particularly when traveling at night, and emphasizes the need for caution while driving, especially in areas with high traffic.
