Andru Luque Felix Obituary, Death – Two young lives were lost and another person was seriously injured following a tragic crash in Delano early Thursday morning, according to the California Highway Patrol (CHP). Authorities reported that the incident occurred around 12:28 a.m. on October 16 along Woollomes Avenue, just west of Wallace Road. Responding officers from the CHP Bakersfield Area Division arrived at the scene after receiving reports of a vehicle rollover.
Preliminary findings revealed that a 21-year-old man was driving a black Acura sedan traveling eastbound on Woollomes Avenue at what investigators described as an undetermined but likely high rate of speed. For reasons still under investigation, the driver reportedly lost control of the vehicle, veering off the north edge of the roadway. The car then struck several large metal poles and a wooden power pole before coming to a stop on the dirt shoulder.
CHP officers confirmed that the driver was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash. The force of the impact caused him to be thrown from the vehicle. Emergency personnel arrived shortly after but pronounced the driver deceased at the scene.
The front-seat passenger, identified by officials as 19-year-old Andru Luque Felix of Delano, also sustained severe injuries. Despite rescue efforts by first responders, Felix was pronounced deceased at the scene as well.
A third occupant, a 19-year-old woman seated in the rear of the vehicle, suffered moderate to major injuries. Emergency medical teams provided immediate care before transporting her to Kern Medical Center for further treatment. Her current condition has not been publicly disclosed, though authorities said she is expected to survive.
The California Highway Patrol stated that investigators are still working to determine what caused the crash, including whether speed, driver distraction, or other factors may have contributed. At this stage, it remains unclear if alcohol or drugs played any role in the collision, though routine toxicology reports will be conducted as part of the ongoing investigation.
Due to the severity of the crash and the resulting debris, both eastbound and westbound lanes of Woollomes Avenue near Wallace Road were temporarily closed for approximately three hours. This allowed law enforcement and emergency crews to investigate the scene, clear the wreckage, and make repairs to damaged roadside structures.
Local authorities are reminding drivers of the importance of obeying speed limits, wearing seatbelts, and remaining attentive behind the wheel, especially during nighttime hours when visibility is reduced.
CHP officers expressed their condolences to the families of the two young individuals who lost their lives and urged anyone with additional information about the incident to contact the Bakersfield Area CHP office.
This heartbreaking crash has deeply affected the Delano community, as both victims were local residents known to friends and family in the area. As investigators continue to piece together the events leading up to the collision, loved ones are mourning the loss of two lives cut tragically short.
The CHP emphasized that the investigation remains active and that more details will be released once findings are confirmed. In the meantime, authorities are urging drivers to exercise caution, always wear seatbelts, and avoid behaviors that could increase the risk of similar tragedies on the road.
This latest crash serves as a somber reminder of how quickly a moment on the road can turn fatal, underscoring the need for extra care and responsibility when driving—particularly at high speeds or during early morning hours when conditions may be less than ideal.
