Angel Lata Landi Obituary, Death – A Peekskill man has been identified as one of the three victims killed in a stabbing spree that took place in Manhattan on Monday. The victim, 36-year-old Angel Lata Landi, was a construction worker from Peekskill. According to the New York Police Department (NYPD), Lata Landi was found with multiple stab wounds to the abdomen at around 8:22 a.m. Monday on W. 19th Street and 8th Avenue in the Chelsea neighborhood.
Lata Landi was rushed to NYC Health + Hospitals Bellevue, where he was later pronounced dead. His tragic death was one of three caused by the same suspect in a series of violent, unprovoked attacks.
The suspect, identified as 51-year-old Ramon Rivera, was apprehended by authorities after the stabbing spree. Rivera has been charged with three counts of first-degree murder, one for each victim. In addition to Lata Landi, Rivera is also accused of killing a 68-year-old man near FDR Drive and a 36-year-old woman near 42nd Street and First Avenue.
Following the attacks, New York City Mayor Eric Adams spoke about the incident at a press conference. He described the stabbings as “unprovoked assaults,” condemning the attacks as senseless violence. “Today we have three innocent New Yorkers going about their lives who were the victim of a terrible, terrible assault,” Adams said. He further criticized the criminal justice and mental health systems, stating that the incident was a clear example of these systems failing the people of New York.
According to the NYPD, Rivera was homeless at the time of the attacks. Additionally, they revealed that he had been released from the Department of Corrections in October, where he had been charged with burglary and assault. His release prior to the stabbing spree has raised questions about the state of the city’s criminal justice system, particularly regarding the handling of individuals with mental health issues and past criminal behavior.
The horrific series of stabbings has left the families of the victims mourning and has raised concerns about public safety in the city. The investigation into the attacks continues, with police working to understand the full scope of Rivera’s actions and any potential connections between the victims.
